Boxed risers for window well covers
What is a boxed riser anyway?
An boxed riser installed on a window well that does not have a curved construction. These type of window wells are usually made from concrete or wood. The boxed extension essentially increases the height of the window well walls and allows the custom window well cover to sit higher then just installing it without raising the walls of the well.
The reason for creating a boxed riser is really two fold. First, in the case of a window well configuration where the window extends higher than the lip of the window well, it allows the cover to have enough clearance so that it will not interfere with the window. This makes for clean installation of the window well cover and eliminates the need for a window well cover extension.
The second reason is in the case of a window well with a casement style basement window which open into the well. In this situation the cover must sit higher than the top of the window so that it does not prohibit the window from fully opening into the well.
All of our boxed risers our made from the same indestructible thick UV stable polycarbonate we use on our covers. This material makes the prefect riser because it is cost effective and extremely strong, allowing us to rest the cover on top of the riser and hold it down with either out stainless steel clips or our SmartLock quick release security locking system.

How are boxed riser installed on window wells.
Boxed risers are attached to the inside surface of the window well using aluminum angle iron and cement screws or rivets. The height of the boxed window well riser it dependents on how high window the extends above the lip of the window well. In the case of a high window, the riser height must extend just above the windows top line so it will not interfere with the opening of the casement window. We can install boxed riser from a few inches to several feet if necessary.
